Pakistani Nobel Prize winner and legal activist Malala Yousafzai announced on Tuesday that she had tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at her home in Birmingham.
“Today is a precious day in my life. Asser and I got married to be partners for life. We held a small Nikkah ceremony with our families in Birmingham. Please send us your prayers. We look forward to the next journey together,” the 24-year-old wrote on Twitter along with some photos of the couple.
The photos were taken by Malin Fezehai, an award-winning photographer and filmmaker.
The photos show how the Nobel Laureate signs Nikah’s papers with her current husband in the presence of her parents.
According to his Twitter profile, Asser Malik works in the High-Performance Department of the Pakistan Cricket Board. His recent tweets to Malala are from her birthday in July. As well as a previous post saying that he is proud of her.
Malala’s happy news was hit with a chorus of tweets wishing her good luck and congratulating her on the weddings. From Jemima Khan to Maleeka Bukhari and Aseefa B Zardari, Twitter users wished her happiness and prosperity.
Malala graduated from Oxford University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).
