Doctor Strange was one of the year’s most anticipated films (and perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year). MCU 28 has dominated the box office since its release.
Given the film’s focus on the multiverse, many cameos are expected. Daniel Craig was almost cast as James Bond. Did the actor turn down that Doctor Strange cameo?
Was Daniel Craig Set To Appear in ‘Doctor Strange 2’?
Daniel Craig almost appeared in the new Marvel sequel Doctor Strange. Many key figures were introduced in the film, including the Illuminati, as planned.
John Krasinski as Reed Richards was a surprise. Krasinski is a fan favorite who many hoped would be cast in the Fantastic Four reboot. It appears he wasn’t the only actor interested in the cameo.
Deadline’s Justin Kroll said John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic “wasn’t the first choice” Daniel Craig was initially cast. The actor was reportedly set to shoot until a rise in COVID cases prompted him to back out to avoid infecting his family.
Prior to Kroll’s comment, rumors swirled that Daniel was also tapped to play Baldur the Brave, another Illuminati member. John Krasinski replaced him because he couldn’t shoot scenes.
As Screenrant noted, Reed Richards’s appearance was a surprise, but Daniel Craig’s connection to the role was well-hidden.
The Bond actor’s potential cameo came out of nowhere, proving he wasn’t on MCU fans’ radar for legitimate roles. John was a pleasant surprise, but the payoff came from fan-casting.
What Are Fans’ Reactions To Daniel Craig Joining MCU?
Digital artist Boss Logic imagined Daniel Craig as Reed Richards after hearing he almost appeared in the film. Daniel is depicted wearing the Fantastic Four uniform.
One Twitter user said, “I’ve seen Daniel Craig fancast as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and I think it would be horrible casting…
Daniel Craig should play Micky Moran/Mr. A miracle if he ever plays a superhero.
Many disliked the actor as Mr. Fantastic. MCU fan: “Daniel Craig isn’t relatable as Reed Richards.” He’s too serious. It’s Marvel’s “Batman.”
Daniel Craig as Reed Richards would have been amazing… Wild crowd. A fan tweeted that it wouldn’t have suited him.
Another fan said, “Strange casting choice if it happens since 99.8% of moviegoers wouldn’t know who Balder is.” I’ve never read a Marvel comic, but I know who Reed Richards is, so I asked, “Who is Balder “The Brave” Odinson?”
Maybe Daniel Craig will join the MCU. For now, fans can look forward to seeing him return to his popular role as Benoit Blanc in Knives Out 2, which will premiere on Netflix in 2022.
