Many Americans are diagnosed with sleep apnea every year. One of the most common treatments for the condition is CPAP. CPAPs keep the airway open while patients sleep, ensuring that they continue to breathe throughout the night. However, a troubling link was recently found between certain Phillips devices and cancer. Phillips CPAPs, ventilators, and Bilevel CPAP machines have all been recalled in light of this new evidence.

In this article, we will discuss this alarming finding and outline the best steps you can take if you’ve been diagnosed with cancer after having used a Phillips device.

Phillips Devices and Cancer

Three Phillips products (the CPAP, BiLevel CPAP, and mechanical ventilator) are all made using the same foam that decreases the amount of noise emitted during use of the device. When this foam breaks down, it travels throughout the body via the respiratory and digestive pathways. As a result, patients have been developing cancer of the lungs, rectum, liver, and kidneys.

It should be stated, the link between cancer and Phillips products has not been clearly defined at this time. But the current evidence is strong enough that Phillips has recalled all these devices and is advising patients to immediately stop the use of these products.

To qualify for a Phillips CPAP lawsuit settlement, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Use of a Phillips CPAP, Bilevel CPAP, or Ventilator.
  • A diagnosis of cancer or other condition linked to the use of said devices.
  • No history of smoking.

As you can see, the qualifications are relatively broad for Phillips CPAP lawsuit settlements. If you believe you qualify, get in touch with a defective medical device lawyer as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to prove your case.

Phillips Devices and Other Symptoms

Outside of cancer, these Phillips devices have also been associated with other issues. While there are many reported problems from the products in question, a few of the common symptoms include:

  • Respiratory issues.
  • Headaches and Dizziness.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues.
  • General Inflammation.

In the end, regardless of your specific symptoms, it’s crucial that you cease using your Phillips device and contact your doctor to determine what you should do next. Phillips has made it clear that the sooner patients stop using these devices, the better.

What Should I Do If I Use a Phillips Product for Sleep Apnea?

Patients are being advised to immediately stop using Phillips devices and contact their doctors. After patients get in contact with their physicians, doctors should advise their patients to seek an alternate treatment for their sleep apnea symptoms. Importantly, for patients who use ventilators, it’s important to discuss the situation with your doctor BEFORE you stop using the product. CPAP and BiLevel PAP users should stop using their devices immediately.

Can a Lawyer Help Me with a Lawsuit?

Defective device lawyers are currently hard at work on these cases. If you believe that you qualify for compensation, call a defective medical device lawyer today. These professionals can help you get all the benefits you deserve.
