Student registration can be hard. When registering to vote in North Carolina, Sanford School professor Gunther Peck believes students should use their P.O. box address, not their dorm address. This ensures the county election board receives mail at the stated address.

"If they give a dorm address in the mailing address spot on the form, their registration may be tossed," says Peck, who works with student voters. Same-day registration allows Duke students to vote early and address the problem. If they wait until election day, they'll get a provisional ballot that will likely be discarded.

Early voting and same-day registration are Oct. 20–Nov. 5 at the Karsh Alumni Center, 2080 Duke University Road."Duke students should know that if their absentee ballots from home don't arrive on time, they can still register and vote in NC," Peck added. "It's not unlawful to register to vote twice, only to vote twice."
