Watermelon With Mustard TikTok’s: I’m almost positive this was a pregnancy craving, because I would never have thought to put mustard on watermelon.
Let TikTok create another polarising food trend that isn’t as bad as you think.
Try it before you comment on the TikTok videos, because you might change your mind at least, that’s what happened to me.
Since I already like strawberries in salad and Tajn my mangoes, I figured I’d give this a shot. Who cares? Watermelon and mustard don’t seem like a strange pairing once you take off your TikTok goggles and remember that fruit doesn’t always have to be sweet or baked into a pie. After trying it, I can see why it’s so popular. It’s a simple two-ingredient snack. Just cut the watermelon into slices, squirt some mustard on them, and enjoy.
Don’t slather the mustard all over the watermelon; it’s best in moderation.
The result is a salty-sweet step-sister, with the mustard’s peppery bite surprising the watermelon’s sweetness. You know how espresso enhances chocolate flavour and salt enhances caramel flavour? The same effect. I tried the watermelon with yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, spicy brown mustard, and honey mustard just for fun. The spicy brown and Dijon were too overpowering, and the honey mustard gave it an unpleasant buttery flavour. Even if you don’t like mustard, putting it on watermelon is probably the best way to eat it. And judging by their TikToks, Lizzo and Blogilates agree.
I wouldn’t eat watermelon with mustard every day, but I could see myself doing so occasionally. Whether it’s #bussin or #disgusting, I’d say it’s an acquired taste, but not disgusting. It gets better as you eat it.
