Eid ul Adha is celebrated in the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim AS. The great prophet of Allah, on the order of Almighty, was ready to sacrifice his son. He was prepared to slaughter his son in the name of Allah. On the ground, when he put the knife on the neck of his son, Allah ordered the knife to stop, and the blade did not cut Ismail’s AS neck. Ibrahim AS was in shock. He tried again; His eyes were covered and slaughtered. When He opened His eyes, He saw a lamb was slaughtered instead of His Son. From that day, Allah Almighty made it the obligation of Islam for every capable person to sacrifice an animal on the 10th of Zillhaj. Animals such as cows, buffalo, goats, horses, etc., are sacrificing animals.
In a hadees it is stated that
“Clear your home with goat as this is a heavenly animal.”
Coming to the present situation of COVID-19, Pakistan is suffering the 4th COVID layer. Since more or less 64% of the population of Pakistan is rural, such extensive rural–urban-rural nomadic activities may further cause the situation to depreciate in the country by facilitating disease diffusion to COVID-19-free regions. Keeping in mind the low literacy rate in the rural population, inhibition of COVID-19 will be a tremendous challenge for the health authorities. It may result in a sharp rise in cases. In Pakistan, cattle farmers move from rural to urban areas to sell their animals before Eid-Ul-Adha. These farmers sell their animals directly to the purchaser at chosen markets. However, many of them move around the cities to sell at the wayside or in profitable and built-up areas. These traders, along with the remaining animals, drive back to their hometowns immediately after the festival.
The situation may get worse if precautions are not taken at the appropriate time. Some preventive measures can be taken to avoid the trouble to get it worse.
- Spreading of potential risks due to Covid -19 via electronic media.
- Banning on in-house slaughtering of animals with the help of non-professional butchers
- Limited and designated cattle markets under the consideration of strict COVID measures.
- A methodical instructive crusade on preventive procedures such as social distancing and the use of shielding paraphernalia should be considered for the staff at abattoirs.
- Animal traders should be confident to do self-quarantine for at least 14 days before going back to their home towns.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, health establishment must remain on high alert, and particular measures should be in use for violent behavior examination during the festival. The administration must relocate their energy and provide sufficient funds to execute controlling measures during Eid-ul-Adha.
May Allah Almighty accept our prayers and sacrifice and grant us good health. Amen!!
